Choosing a dashboard type

Pick the right type before building anything.

The wrong type is a rebuild, not a setting you can change later.

Add Dashboard at the foot of the Reporting list creates a dashboard. Folders are organised directly in the navigation menu: drag one dashboard name onto another and ValueWorks creates a new folder containing both dashboards. You can then drag other dashboards into that folder, move dashboards between folders, or drag a dashboard out of a folder to remove it from the folder.

Folders can also sit inside other folders. Drag a folder onto another folder to nest it; repeat the same action to build further levels of folders as needed.

Open a folder's three-dot menu to rename or delete the folder. Choosing Delete opens a confirmation message stating that the folder's content will not be deleted. Confirming removes only the folder itself — the dashboards and nested content inside it remain available in the Reporting navigation.

Three types, each answering a different brief. A dynamic dashboard is a stack of KPI cards under collapsible sections, filtered by trend and deviation like the standard dashboards — the choice when someone wants to scan many KPIs for what needs attention.

A canvas dashboard is a free layout of mixed cards: KPI charts, tables, headings, waterfalls. The choice when you are composing a page someone will read top to bottom.

A table dashboard is a financial statement you assemble yourself — the same columns, level control and views as Financial Reporting, over KPIs you pick.

Canvas is the recommended choice in most cases. It carries every other type inside it as a card, including a table dashboard, so a canvas can do what the other two do and more. Reach for a dynamic dashboard when the filters are the point, and for a standalone table dashboard when the deliverable really is just a statement.

Takeaways

  • Dynamic — cards under sections, for scanning many KPIs.

  • Canvas — free layout of mixed cards, for a page read top to bottom.

  • Table — a statement you assemble, with Financial Reporting's columns and views.

  • Canvas is the default recommendation — it can hold the other two as cards.

  • Create a folder by dragging one dashboard name onto another; both dashboards become members of the new folder.

  • Drag dashboards into, between, or out of folders to reorganise them.

  • Drag a folder onto another folder to nest it. Folders can be nested through multiple levels.

  • The folder three-dot menu lets you rename or delete the folder. A confirmation warns that deleting it does not delete its contents.
