Building an investor report

Create a report and give it a clear structure before adding content.

A good report starts as an ordered argument, not as a pile of charts.

Open Investor Reporting and choose Create new report. ValueWorks creates a draft report shell with a default name and Section 1. Rename the report with the pencil beside its title before you start filling it.

Use + Add section for each distinct part of the story. Rename sections so readers can scan the structure, then use the Sort sections button in the top action bar — the icon shows two vertical arrows, one pointing up and one pointing down — to arrange them. A practical order is: executive summary, performance and variance, operational drivers, outlook, risks and decisions required.

Build the shell first. It is much easier to notice a missing part of the story when the section list is visible than after content has accumulated.
