Section types and content
Choose the right section type and format its content.
Use a live product view when the evidence already exists; use text when the point needs interpretation.
The current Section type menu contains Text, KPI, Attachments, Deep Drills, Charts, Financial reporting, Planning, Forecasting, Chart Genius and Table dashboard.
| Content need | Best section type |
|---|---|
| Narrative, headline, recommendation or decision | Text |
| A small number of headline measures | KPI |
| A statement or variance table | Financial reporting |
| Plan or forecast evidence | Planning or Forecasting |
| A saved visualization | Charts or Chart Genius |
| An existing table dashboard | Table dashboard |
| Supporting file | Attachments |
| An existing Deep Drill investigation on a KPI | Deep Drills |
The Text editor supports heading levels, bold, italics, underline, lists, alignment and links. Its table controls add tables, columns and rows; the Cell menu includes operations such as merging and splitting cells. Use tables for compact, structured comparison — not to reproduce a spreadsheet.
Attachments is the one type that isn't live product data — it's a file upload, governed by real limits worth knowing before you try to attach something and get rejected. The combined size of everything you attach to a report cannot exceed 30MB. Allowed types: PDF, PPT, Excel, Word, TXT, PNG, GIF, CSV, HTML, ZIP, RAR, JSON, SVG, and JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg). Anything outside that list — or a set of files that pushes the total past 30MB — won't upload, so it's worth checking file sizes before a deadline, not during one.
⭐ One thing worth keeping in mind whichever type you pick: the rich-text editor underneath is the same editor on every section type — switching from KPI to Financial reporting to Text doesn't take it away. There's always a place to write commentary, regardless of what kind of data the section is built around.
