Core path

Scenario analysis

Choose the right scenario type and set up a what-if run.

From a simple what-if to thousands of probabilistic runs, without building the spreadsheet model yourself.

Scenario Analysis turns complex financial modelling into a self-serve experience, from simple what-if assumptions to probabilistic simulations, with the analytical rigour of a strategy consultancy and without manual spreadsheet models or external advisors.

1 · Select a scenario type. Four types, each card naming what it produces:

TypeUse it to…Produces What-If AnalysisChange one or more assumptions and see the cascading impact across the P&L, balance sheet or KPIs.Driver tree, comparison table, waterfall chart Break-Even AnalysisFind the exact point where revenue covers all costs — fixed, variable and mixed.Break-even chart, cost structure, sensitivity table Monte Carlo SimulationRun thousands of probabilistic scenarios for confidence intervals and risk distributions.Distribution histogram, tornado chart, confidence intervals Strategy ComparisonCompare 2–3 strategic options side by side on financial impact, risk and timeline.Scoring matrix, NPV comparison, risk assessment

2 · Configure the analysis (What-If shown). Drivers to change: a KPI/driver and a change (for example EBITDA at +15%), with + Add driver for more. Impact scope: Full P&L, Revenue only, Cost structure, Cash flow or Custom KPIs. Timeframe: 3, 6, 12, 24 or 36 months. Then choose Data Sources and a Detail level, and press Run What-If Analysis. The screen notes that the AI uses connected data sources or asks for assumptions.

Two steps of Scenario Analysis: Choose a Scenario Type (What-If, Break-Even, Monte Carlo Simulation, Strategy Comparison, each listing what it produces) beside the What-If configuration — Drivers to change (KPI/Driver and Change, plus Add driver), Impact scope, Timeframe, Data Sources, a Detail setting and a Run What-If Analysis button.

Takeaways

  • Four types: What-If, Break-Even, Monte Carlo Simulation, Strategy Comparison.

  • What-If setup: drivers to change, impact scope, timeframe, data sources, detail.

  • Each type lists what it produces before you run it.

Two quick questions

Practice only — nothing here is scored or recorded.

1. You want confidence intervals and risk distributions. Which scenario type?

2. What do you set under Drivers to change in a What-If run?
