Lesson 3 of 5 · 2 min

Uploading planning data

Get a plan out of a spreadsheet and into ValueWorks.

Most plans arrive as a spreadsheet somebody has already argued over. The template is what stops the argument starting again.

Data Management → Manual Data Upload handles three kinds of figure separately: Reporting, Planning and Forecasting, each with its own section, its own upload button and its own history.

Each section works the same way. Filter by KPI category and a From and To year, press Download template to get a spreadsheet already shaped for those KPIs and years, fill it in, then Upload new planning.

Downloading the template first is the whole trick. It arrives with the right rows and the right periods, so the upload matches what the platform expects instead of what your spreadsheet happened to be called.

Every upload is recorded with its years, date, file name, author and a Status. Watch that column: Successful upload, contains warnings means the upload completed, but it still needs checking. Verify the resulting values in the relevant Planning section and investigate any reported issues before treating the upload as complete.

A Basic and a Complex tab sit above all three sections, for simple figures and for uploads carrying more structure.

Practice only — nothing here is scored or recorded.

1. You are about to upload next year's budget. What do you do first?

2. An upload reports *Successful upload, contains warnings*. What does that mean?
